Hi Bob. If you have a DVD player that is a Multi Region player you can play Australian DVDS and will be able to order the Snowy River boxed set from here and view it in widescreen like we did in the cinema's when i was first released.
Check your instruction booklet and see what it says about regions.
If not - then everyone will have to keep their fingers crossed that some day the DVD's get an overseas release.

As far as I remember Windrider got a worldwide release. Over the years I have had emails from the UK and South Africa mentioning it being seen there.
What video and dvd region does NZ fit it ? If you have a video player that plays NTSC then you can grab a copy of it on eBay most weeks. (In Aus the video players are PAL but most newer models also play NTSC).
I wait with baited breath for a DVD release some day. I know the director sold the rights to the film a couple of years ago so I dont know how that affects future any DVD release. I was actually quite tempted to buy the rights but had no idea how to go about it !!

My all time favorite movies are Tom's Man from Snowy River movies. He looked so young in the first one and seemed more comfortable with that role. In the sequel, he seemed to be uncomfortable and "stiff" if that's the word. He didn't even look like the same kid and was definitely more mature and just drop dead gorgeous. I am attempting to get more of his movies, especially Time Guardian. I'm a real sci-fi buff and anything like that peaks my interest. Does anyone know if in "Return to Snowy River" when Tom does the ride down the hill again, when Denny is shot and falls, was that Tom or a stunt double. The angle of the fall looks like whoever it was got their right leg twisted under the horse as he rolled. It's looks like it could have been a very painful injury. Having 4 athletic sons and enduring their sprains, strains and what not, I hope whoever it was that made that scene was not seriously hurt.

Does anyone know if Tom will be performing his "Frank" show in the states. I really would like to see him perform, he voice is dynamite. We are planning a vacation to Australia in November of 2007 for one of the Snowy river Heritage Festivals, I hope he will be in the area or in Sidney around that time. That would be the high point of my life and since I'm pushing 60 years old, I could die a happy woman!! Ha Ha!

The Time Guardian is available on DVD now. Here is a link to the online dvd store I use with a list of what they have starring Tom. www.ezydvd.com.au/mech/search.zml?ps=1&id=nBBdH%3ArF2Vf&f=Actors&q=burlinson&ca=&di=&ra=&au=&au2=&re=&pr=&pr2=&or=&la=&su=With DVDs from Australia - they are a different region to the US (on my www.tomburlinson.info click on the FAQ button for more detailed info), but quite a few people have told me they have played aussie dvds in the dvd drive of their computer and they work brilliantly. So if you cant afford a multi region dvd player - the computer is the way to go. There are ways to make your current dvd player into a multi region one. I recently bought an LG dvd player & recorder and just typed the model number into Google and added the word "multi region" and encountered loads of websites offering the code you need to enter into your machine to override the manufacturers settings. It worked on mine so now I can play regions from all over the world. With Toms Frank show. At present he is doing an australian tour, but unable to predict as far ahead as 2007. I know he has always wanted to take the show to the US but its a very difficult and expensive process. There are also issues regarding "foreigners taking jobs of Americans". Because Frank Jnr has his own tribute show - he could rightly prevent any other performer bring a Frank show to the US. Re the scene in Snowy 2. I get asked so many questions about the jump in the first film - so I know the answer - but to be honest no one has ever asked about the jump in the second film so I will have to check with Tom. Most people ask whether Denny died in that scene (no he didnt - he lived to a ripe old age - dying in 1999). I will see what I can find out about who actually rode in that scene.

Thanks, Karina, I've seen the movie so many times now and I am very observant. If it was Tom, I hope it was just the angle of the camera but it sure looks like the right leg is twisted as the horse rolls and is flattened by the horses body. Of course, I knew Denny wouldn't have gotten killed. I've been around movies and stunts too long. You know, I never considered Frank, Jr. That upsets me that the Sinatra family has become shall we say "elitist" in not wanting any one else to pay tribute to Frank. It's not like Tom is a "star impersonator". He simply sounds outstanding in Frank's classics. I can't wait til I can hear the whole show! Also, Karina, where do we write for autographs? I would love to get one of the Snowy River 2 pictures of Sigrid and Tom with both autographs. But I guess I'm dreaming there. I would be happy just to get Tom's. Is there someplace we can write to? Oh well, I'm playing with fire hoping my computer won't crash yet. I'll be signing off til the weekend. Thanks for the link for more Tom movies. I'll be using it on my next payday! Be good, Thanks again!

Is the Snowy River Jim and Jess wedding scene included in the 2 movie set or it it just on the new release? I intend to buy both for collector's reasons but I was just wondering. As much as I love the 2 movies, the second one could have used more footage and the wedding and some other scenes to explain in a little more detail what was going on would have worked wonders. I think I agree with Tom about having Brian Dennehy playing Harrison without any background or flashbacks shall we say so viewers could place him better in the story. My personal opinion is that if Kirk Douglas was not available and they had to use a new star, then the storyline should have been rewritten to introduce Dennehy as a NEW character, perhaps another uncle appointed as guardian for Jess. I just couldn't accept the drastic change in appearance and characterization that Mr. Dennehy brought to the film. One of those lost threads was why Jim went looking for horses (other than trying to get a start for him and Jess) in the outback. If the mountain breeds were so good, why did he go so far looking! There appeared to be a lot of holes and although Tom was true to the original character, the second Jim Craig just wasn't the affable, easy going Jim Craig of the original. The addition of a close friend for Jim was a smart move, I liked the Mark Hembrow character and they could have done so much more with the character. But for what it was it is a truly outstanding movie in giving closure to the original. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on like this but I really, really, really liked both movies.

Hiya
The wedding scene is on both versions - if you buy the dvd on its own - or in the duel packages.
I do agree about Brian Dennehy. I love him as an actor but he was so very wrong for the films continuity age and size wise. Good idea that he could have come over - maybe as Harrisons younger brother - to be Jess's guardian.
Kirk Douglas refused to be a part of the sequel. The only reason he was even employed for the first one was because the Australian film industry in the 80s believed that the only way to sell an Aussie film overseas was if it had a "big US or UK name" in it. So consequently our films of that era have at least one overseas "star" in them. Think Linda Koslowski in the Croc Dundee movies etc. These days of course our films do just fine without needing to import actors.
I think the reason Jim had to go away for the unspecified amount of years (in my mind I always felt it was 5 or 6 years) and so far away - was the continued quest to manhood. He had a lot of things to prove to Harrison and the mountain community. He had to become self sufficient, he had to grow up, mature etc. So when he returned he was older and wiser.
I have never been a 100% fan of the sequel to be honest. I just think some films are so good that they shouldnt be ruined with sequels. I love the characters and the scenery and the music, but it doesnt grip me or move me as the original film does.
I think getting Disney involved was a huge mistake. At that point it removed itself from being an australian film and it went off the wall.

I couldn't agree with you more, Disney has a knack of taking away the intent or originality of films. They should stick to their animation. And Yes, it did appear that Jim was gone for longer than they stated. He seemed very mature and wiser by far. Jess also appeared to have matured but after seeing Jim at the ranch that day, there is no mistake that Jim is the one for her. The looks and body language leave little doubt and Tom and Sigrid did a very good job. I have a very ecletic taste when it comes to movies but being from the old school, I have always been partial to westerns and Snowy River may not be American, but it is one of the best I've seen. I have been a John Wayne fan since I was 6 years old. He was kind of my father figure after my father was killed in a work accident. I'd like to see Tom in a light hearted romantic comedy with music. Somehing like the old MGM musicals, a remake of "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" or even "I'd Rather Be Rich!" which starred Robert Goulet, Andy Williams and Sandra Dee. Tom would be perfect in the Robert Goulet role (especially since he gets the girl in the end). The music was just right for Tom. Have you ever seen the movie? If Tom can do a musical on stage, a musical movie would be right up his alley. If you can find a copy of "I'd Rather Be Rich!" you should watch it. It may not be out on DVD or even video, I'm not sure. If it shows on TV here I'll try to tape it and see what my son the computer geek can do to make it into a format you can watch and mail it to you. I think it would be a great vehicle for Tom if they could get the right co-stars with him. By the way, I'm home from work today because I am sick. Ate something that definitely did not agree with me and I'm paying for it! Any way, that's my thoughts on the subject. I need to go lay down for a while. Have a great Day! Karina

Hi Marysusand The easiest way to tell it a dvd is a US or Au version is that firstly Au versions are PAL (US are NTSC), and Au versions are only sold in Australia. US dvds are Region 1 and Au dvds are region 4. (this info is generally written on the front and back of the dvd. So basically any versions being sold on US sites such as Amazon are US versions. Australian region 4 dvds can be played in US multi region dvd players but first you have to know for sure your dvd player is multi region - so check your manual that came with the player. They can also be played in your computers dvd drive and there are some US residents who have tried this and can give you more info. I usually recommend the online Australian store www.ezydvd.com.au simply because I have been buying from them for years and find them to have great service and they do ship overseas. ezydvd's website sells several Tom dvds - including both of the Snowy River movies, Phar Lap, The Time Guardian and his Sinatra concert. Just type Toms name in the search box and they all come up.
