Something for NSW fans to look forward to: Presenting Australian star of screen and stage, Tom Burlinson, in his latest musical production, NOW WE’RE SWINGIN’ - a sensational, swinging salute to the masters of the genre. Tom has delved even deeper into the Great American Song Book to create Now We’re Swingin’, a montage of swing classics by Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra, through to the songs made famous by supercool swingers of the current era - Harry Connick Jr, Michael Bublé and Robbie Williams. Tom’s show includes the greatest songs from the era of swing, and the ones for which the individual singers became best known. Saturday 14th August Tivoli Showroom Rooty Hill RSL. mt-druitt-standard.whereilive.com.auSwing to 'Sinatra' at Rooty Hill RSL 4 Aug 10 @ 10:12am by SUSAN LIU THE man known as the Man From Snowy River has many guises. Since his starring role in one of the more successful Australian films, Tom Burlinson has been constantly reinventing himself. Burlinson spoke to The Mt Druitt-St Marys Standard about acting, swing music and his new tour, which plays at Rooty Hill RSL next Saturday. “I’ve been fortunate to be able to diversify within showbiz, working on stage, in television and in movies,” he said. His part in the iconic 1982 movie changed his life and led to a string of starring roles in films such as Phar Lap and Eureka Stockade. But the ‘90s proved to be a turning point for Burlinson, who started professional singing as the voice of the young Frank Sinatra in the Warner Brothers mini-series Sinatra. “To develop a musical side of my career was a surprise to me. It is important to really diversify between various areas,” he said. In 1998, Burlinson kicked off his acclaimed production Frank- A Life in Song, which played for successful seasons across the country. Five years later, he returned with Frank, playing to sell-out houses at Star City Showroom and Crown Melbourne. While Burlinson also starred in films like the iconic Australian story about the 2002 Melbourne Cup (The Cup), he revealed the infectious sounds of swing never left him. “As a young boy, I had a feel for it (swing) and I’ve always loved it,” he said. His current tour, Now We’re Swingin’, was an offshoot from Frank “which encouraged me to expand my repetoire”, he said. Burlinson said modern crooners like Harry Connick Jr and Michael Buble have made swing cool again for younger audiences. “If you like these people, you will like what I’m doing in this show. I’ve found that younger audiences don’t realise that these songs were originally written and performed back in the 40s and 50s,” he told the Standard. “I like to set the record straight and make sure the audience knows who they originally done by. “It will be a concert with a bit of information about swing music and a lot of up-tempo songs.” The show will include classics from Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Dean Martin. Venue: Rooty Hill RSL Date: Saturday, August 14 Tickets: $31 (adults only) Bookings: 9625 5500
