I read in one of the articles in the article section that the Sinatra family actually gave Tom approval on his show. That was great news and I know it made Tom feel rather satisfied with his production because the show is something he can be extremely proud of. And I'm basing my praise simply on hearing the music, I haven't seen the DVD yet. Has anyone approached the family on doing a combined Tom/Frank Jr show at Harrah's or one of the newer casinos in Las Vegas? If the Sinatra family is sincere in their praise and approval of Tom's tribute, they should at least consider presenting it here in the states. I know it will be expensive for Tom but I know the fans here in the states, and I don't just mean fans of Frank Sr but Tom Burlinson fans as well, would greatly appreciate it. I know I would!!! The backup band is fantastic and I know Tom would rather sing with them but barring the possibility, could he sing with the band from Frank Jr? As I said if the Sinatra family is sincere, they would want to share their father's legacy and what better way than in tribute from someone outside the family to make it all the more meaningful. It shows how special an entertainer Frank Sr was and how his ability to entertain carries on in new generations. Any way, someone ought to suggest it to Tom's manager or even the Sinatra family. If I were a braver person, I would!

I dont really know how it all works, but I know that to perform the songs etc you have to have permission from the family. Toms show had to change name to - he use to use the word Sinatra in the title of the show - but now uses the word Frank.
They approved the use of Tom's voice in the family produced mini series in the early 90s and thats a pretty big deal.
I personally would love to see Tom take the show to the US and blow them all away with it.
But actors and singers are bound by many laws and work visa issues etc. Its the reason why Hugh Jackman had to play Peter Allen in Boy from Oz in New York. The musical had been running in Aus for 3 or 4 years with an astoundingly perfect cast. It took several court cases for the show to even be allowed to be showed in the US - and they had to agree to lose the entire Aussie cast and the lead role (which had been played every night for 4 years by the one guy in Aus) had to go to someone "famous". Whether Hugh was perfect for the part or not. Dont get me wrong - I have been a fan of Hughs since he was an acting student by day and my favourite waiter by night in the mid 90s - but I do not believe he was perfect for that role. The original guy, Todd McKenney, was perfect.
You need to look at it from the perspective of all the US actor/singers who make a living using Franks voice etc. They would lose their jobs if a better Australian came along and took the job.
My friends husband is in one of the US's best Beatles band (actually they are probably the best Beatles band full stop) and I woud love them to tour here. But the two bands in Australia that tour year round as the Beatles - wont allow it. It would take work away from them.
So I see the arguement from both sides.

Yeah, I see it from both sides too now that you clarified a few things for me. It's just so stupid that we have these really, really, great entertainers (actors, singers musicans, whatever) and there's no happy medium for people to enjoy what they do! All the more incentive for me to save my money to come to your fair country. It seems so unfair that everyone can't enjoy what is available without back lash over income or work. Guess Shakespeare was wrong when he said the world is a stage, Huh!

HEY THERE KARINA I AGREE WITH YOU I WOULD LOVE TO SEE TOM COME TO THE US BECAUSE HE WOULD BLOW FRANK AWAY BUT OF COURSE FRANK'S FAMILY BEING WHAT THEY ARE AND HOW THEY ARE DON'T THEY REALIZE THAT IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THEM TO SEE THAT FRANK'S MUSIC IS STILL ALIVE IN A ANGEL'S VOICE NAMED TOM BURLINSON THE PEOPLE OF THE US WOULD OF COURSE GO NUTS WITH TOM SINGING THE WAY HE SINGS HE IS JUST GIVING A TRIBUTE TO FRANK BUT LORD HE WOULD BE " THE MAN" IF HE CAME HERE TO SING FOR US

I didn't know there was so much "red tape" getting a show played in another country. I was extremely surprised to hear Tom's voice sound like "Francis Albert Sinatra" (as he called himself sometimes) - I thought Frank Sinatra's voice was very unique and no one else could sound like him. Again, I'm amazed how much Tom sounds like him.

Thanks for the info. I went to the ezydvd site and I would have a problem of regions. The DVD is Region 4 and I'm Region 1. I check my DVD player and it is limited to Region 1. What a bummer! The only way I have heard his voice is the media player on his website.

m, If you have a current computer, you may be able to play the DVD on it. That's how i watch his concert, It's in my lap top and I watch that DVD again and again and again. It's fantastic. His voice is so like Old Blue Eyes it amazing. Some of the songs on the DVd are modeled after how Sinatra performed them. But Tom is his own man and does it his way and I love it! You should see if there is a program built into your computer to play other region material.

momserphilly: thanks for the info, I will check the computer out. When I saw the DVD came in 5:1 surround sound I was excited as I have a sound system to accomodate that. But guess I will humble myself and watch it on my computer (hopefully that is possible). I have another thought about Tom bringing his Frank Show to USA. Every year (January) Robert Redford puts on the Sundance Film Festival (in Park City Utah) which is all independent films. I don't know if foreign films as Australia are entered. Major studios then pick up some of these films. There have been major Hollywood stars in these movies and they come to Park City for the event. If foreign films are accepted Tom could do a movie about his Frank Show or maybe just the show itself - anyway, exposure to USA of his talent. I comment on Independent Filming as a possible way of bringing Tom to USA without the Visa hassles the US Gov't puts on people. Just a thought!

Yeah, I questioned Karina on that too when I read that the Sinatra family said they liked Tom's tribute. Seems it's not just the Sinatra family but a lot of other things in the massive pile of red tape. It a crime too because I know a lot of people who have seen my DVd of Tom's show and would love to have him perform here. I even thought about the casinos out here on the Indian reservations. It may not be Vegas or Reno but it would do.

I know the red tape is difficult but many people come here to work for short term. I live near several ski areas and I know one (called Deer Valley) has at least 1/3 of the workers are from other countries. My daughter has a friend she met while working there that is from Slovenia who has been coming here for the past 9 ski seasons to work. On Tom's website somewhere I read he tried bringing his show to Los Angeles and San Francisco. He went to both cities to "feel out" the market and felt it wouldn't go over well in those cities. Like you, Las Vegas seems like the perfect place for him to be.

With the advent of the casinos in all these new places though, there may be hope. I mean they are opening casinos in Atlantic City and the shores resort of New Jersey and some in upstate New York. Likew I said the casinos on the Indian reservations out here might be an opportunity. I live in an area with a lot of the older retired communities from the era when Frank was popular. that would be a big boost for Tom I think.
